About University of Al Fashir

University of Al Fashir is a public university located in Al Fashir, North Darfur. Its roots date back to November 1975 with the declaration of the University of Darfur, and it was officially opened in February 1991 in Al Fashir city. After Darfur was divided in 1993, the faculties located in Al Fashir became the nucleus of the current university.

The university is a member of Sudanese, African, and Arab university associations, and has academic and cultural cooperation agreements with national, regional, and international institutions.

According to the brochure, registered students for the 2017-2018 academic year reached 15,221: 14,547 undergraduate students and 674 graduate students.

Academic System and Languages

The university follows the semester system, with each semester lasting 15 to 18 weeks. Arabic is used in social sciences, English in medical programs, and both languages in applied science faculties.

University and Community

The university engages with local and rural communities to understand their needs, using research, training, and academic services to support development and address environmental and social issues.

About Al Fashir City

Al Fashir is a historic city dating back to the late eighteenth century. It was the center of the Darfur Sultanate and home to Sultan Ali Dinar Palace. It remains the capital of North Darfur State, about 1250 km west of Khartoum.
